     Samuel Webb Flanders was born on 13 October 1812 in Cornville, Somerset County, Maine.2,3,4,1 He was the son of Moses Flanders and Roxana Webb.2,3,4 Samuel Webb Flanders and Cynthia McClure filed marriage intentions on 1 April 1838 in Cornville, Somerset County, Maine.3 In 1838 Samuel married Cynthia McClure, daughter of Andrew McClure and Mehitable Marsh.2,4 He enlisted, on 21 Augsut 1862, in Capt. Whiting S. Clark's Company E, Col. Danield Chaplin's First Regiment Heavy Artillery, Maine Volunteers.2 Samuel Webb Flanders died on Wednesday, 15 June 1864 in Washington Hosp, Washington, DC, at age 51 years, 8 months and 2 days from wounds received at the Battle of Fredericksburg Pike. Fitzgibbon (1997) gives the date as 14 June 1864.2,5,1 He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia. There is a cenotaph with Samuel's name in the Shirley Cemetery, Shirley, Piscataquis County, Maine.2,5
