     Joseph Roy was born on 12 January 1841 in Canada.2,1 He was the son of Louis Roy and Nathalie Bonin.1 On 19 May 1863 in Montréal, Comté de Montréal, Québec, Canada, Joseph married Marie Adelaide Gagnon, daughter of Joseph Gagnon and Marie-Delphine Giguère.3,1,4 Joseph Roy immigrated in 1877 to Cohoes, Albany County, New York, from Canada.3 Joseph married Ada unknown. She was probably Joseph's second wife, whom Joseph married after moving to New York.2 Joseph Roy and Ada unknown appeared on the Census of 1880 in 454 Wilmer Avenue, Cohoes, Albany County, New York. His occupation was listed as a cabinet maker on the census record.2 Joseph Roy lived in 1890 in 15 Hill, Rochester, Monroe County, New York, according to the 1890 Directory, which listed him as a pattern maker.5
